What Are You On The Hook For?

We've all screwed up.

And we all put ourselves on the hook for past mistakes.

There are the small things:

  • a careless comment,

  • something we forgot to do,

  • an error we should have caught but overlooked.

Our rational minds tell us they’re no big deal, in the scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. But it’s amazing how long we can stay stuck on that hook.

And then there are the things we’re still on the hook for years later. A job we got fired from. Something we did that hurt someone we cared about. A decision we made in a hurry that cost us far more than we expected.

Big or small, the thing that we’re on the hook for isn’t as important as the fact that we are keeping ourselves on the hook. It’s something we do to ourselves. And if it’s something we do to ourselves, then it’s something we can stop doing.

We can take ourselves off the hook.

There are 3 SIMPLE steps to let yourself off the hook. Check out my video,

How to Let Yourself Off the Hook

Why let ourselves off the hook?

It seems so obvious, doesn’t it? No one really wants to be on the hook. Do I really need to ask why we should let ourselves off the hook?

Yes, I need to ask.

Because if I don’t ask it, we won’t take it seriously. We’ll say, “Yeah, yeah, I’m over it. I’ve moved on.” But in our heart of hearts,

  • We’ll still brood.

  • We’ll still replay the mistake 1,000 times.

  • We’ll still devote SIGNIFICANT mental energy to something that causes SIGNFICANT pain.

And we’ll stay stuck. We’ll block our forward progress. We’ll certainly block our immediate progress; you can’t move forward if you’re looking at the past.

But we’ll also cost ourselves opportunities. We’ll hold ourselves back. Punish ourselves. Tell ourselves we don’t deserve growth, or prosperity, or good things in our lives. We’ll sentence ourselves to being as small as we feel when we think about the thing we’re on the hook for.

So letting ourselves off the hook is the first step to changing your life. Improving your life. Taking a step towards the things you want to do, the dreams you want to fulfill.
